Resolution for 2014: Fish the waters along the entire North Carolina coast 1/2/14

Every year, I make a New Year's Resolution. And I keep it...
Some people make resolutions to 'quit' things: quit smoking, quit eating sugar, quit whatever...

I make resolutions to have adventures.
One year, I resolved to visit the Top 25 Restaurants in the Triangle. North Carolina has an area called The Triangle, which is actually the cities of Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill. This resolution was an absolute blast because to tackle the list, I invited friends to join me each month for a culinary feast. Each dining experience was different and wonderful, and the dinner company was excellent.

This year, my resolution is to fish the entire coast of North Carolina.

Granted, this is not a resolution that I can complete in one fell swoop...nor do I want to rush and try to complete it right away. Through the process, I'll not only discover parts of North Carolina that I've never seen, I'm planning to bike and hike and take in lots of sunshine....and hopefully conquer a few books while I'm waiting for my fishing line to jerk in announcement of that Big Bite.

Unless the weather changes drastically, I'll be spending January and February planning my trips. In some cases, I'll need to have a boat and in almost every situation except for beach fishing, I'll need lodging. In the event that we do get nice weather in the winter, I'd love to fish on the beach. (I've never been to the beach in the winter...evah!)

Oh.. and as I fish, I'd like to see how many different types of fish I catch. The NC DNR site offers this list: http://portal.ncdenr.org/web/mf/fish-finder and I'm going to do my best to cross off each type of fish caught. I don't know if I'll keep any -- it all depends on size, taste, and of course, the law.

Another resolution I made for this year is to improve my writing...so I'll be using the 2014 Fishing Adventure to force myself to write more, and more often. I'll be journaling to this blog so that I can look back and see the progress I've made.

Cheers to a year of writing about fishing, and fishing while reading. It's going to be a great adventure!
